Tweeters are a type of speaker that is used to reproduce the highest frequency sounds in an audio system. If you want the full range of sound from your car stereo, this is a vital element. However, there are some important things to keep in mind. Here are three considerations involving tweeters:

  1. Tweeters Cone in Different Shapes – The three main tweeter shapes are the cone, semi-dome, and What is the difference? Dome tweeters are optimal for the best sound dispersion. This is important when it comes to how directional high-frequency sounds are (see point 3). Cones are cheaper, but you will hear it in the sound quality.
  2. Tweeters Are Made from Various Materials – The most common are synthetic, textiles, and metals. Synthetic is cheapest and will affect sound quality. Textiles and metal have their own strengths and weaknesses, so a big consideration will be the amount of road noise you have to deal with. Metal is good for overpowering road noise, while textiles can provide the best quality sound but at the cost of sheer volume.
  3. High-Frequency Sounds Are Directional – The location of your tweeters is a vital consideration. Even the best quality speakers will fall flat if you put these highly directional speakers in the wrong place. Dome tweeters give you a wider sweet spot, but it will still be limited. In other words, you don’t want your tweeters in a door pointed at your legs.

Before you have new speakers installed in your car, it is important to know a little bit about what you are getting into so an installer can’t sell you more than what you need. We’re going to debunk three myths about car audio speakers, so you don’t get taken for a ride while trying to upgrade your audio system.

Myth #1 – You Can’t Get Good Sound from a Speaker in a Door

The main issue with door speakers isn’t the quality of the sound. It’s that you can’t use directional speakers because they are usually pointing at your calf, not your ears. However, something like a mid-bass driver doesn’t have to be as directional as something like a tweeter. Thus, using your doors for speaker placement is all about knowing which speakers will work best in a certain location.

Myth #2 – The Door Speaker Grill Will Destroy My Sound Quality

Once again, this goes back to putting the right kind of speaker in the door. The issue with those grills that manufacturers put over stock door speakers is that they redirect sounds that have a shorter wavelength. If you use a speaker that will only produce sounds with a longer wavelength, the grill will have little to no effect on sound quality.

Myth #3 – My Subwoofer Size Doesn’t Have to Match My Other Speakers

In part, it depends on what you want your music to sound like. But for balanced sound, you want to cone size of all of your speakers to be equal. This ensures that all of your speakers are moving the same amount of air.

Thumping bass is the hallmark of an upgraded car audio system. What are some of the things you need to take into consideration when selecting the right subwoofer to meet your listening needs? Here are three areas to pay attention to when it comes to choosing the perfect sub to have installed for your car audio system.

  1. Choose the Right Type of Sub – If your car is already designed for a sub, you may be able to purchase a drop-in. This will be easier to install. A powered sub is important if you don’t want an external amplified. A raw subwoofer will need to be put into the proper enclosure and powered by the right amplifier, but it will also provide the best performance in most instances.
  2. Use the Right Enclosure – The right enclosure can help to ensure that you get the full benefit from your sub. A sealed box is the only way to get a very precise sound. A ported enclosure can provide you with more output with minimal precision loss. A bandpass enclosure is designed to give you the best of both worlds. Or you can just attach free-air subs to a board. This is the cheapest option but isn’t great for sound quality.
  3. Frequency Range – This is an important element when it comes to output quality. The smaller the number (in Hz), the lower the sounds that will be produced accurately. Of course, at some point you get beyond the limits of human hearing. Most people here between 20 and 20,000 Hz, although some people can hear down to 12 Hz. Frequencies down to 4 Hz can be felt, so a better range can provide a better thump.

The amplifier is one of the most important components in any high-end car audio system. How can you be sure that you choose the right one? Here are 4 factors to consider when selecting an amplifier for your car’s sound system.

  1. How many channels do you need? If you use a separate amp for a sub, you can get a mono channel amp for it. Your door speakers can then be run with a 2 or 4 channel amp. Amplifiers that have 5 channels or more are designed to run your entire sound system.
  2. How many watts do you need? Keep in mind that the wattage of your amplifier should be more than the wattage of the speakers it will be amplifying. If you plug a 100-watt speaker into a 100-watt amp, it won’t last as long or sound as good as it would with a 150-watt amp.
  3. Are you wiring subs in series or parallel? Series is better for your subs, but it also increases resistance, so you get better sound from wiring in parallel. Just be prepared that this may shorten the life of your subwoofers.
  4. Brands matter when it comes to amps. There are a lot of things where you can go with an off brand and be okay, but when it comes to amplifiers, you want to stick to the big-name brands. That’s why we offer all the best brands here at Soundiego.

We live in a world that runs on technology, especially when it comes to entertainment. If you are in the hospitality industry and have a fleet of buses, limousines, or luxury vehicles, you need to stay up-to-date. We’re going to consider a few signs that may show it is time to invest in some upgrades for your fleet.

When Online Reviews Include Complaints

Look for keywords in your online reviews. You may have good vehicles and a great staff, but words like “dated” should send a clear message that it may be time to upgrade things like audio and video features. For example, more and more people spend time watching and sharing videos on social media. Do you have an easy way for passengers to hook into a video system and watch viral videos with friends?

When Competitors Are Upgrading

You really want to beat your competitors to the punch in offering better and newer services, but you certainly don’t want to fall behind. If you are finding out that competing services in your area are offering things like an upgraded sound system or video displays, it’s time to catch up. You can’t be the only game in town with 1080p screens when every other limo service or party bus company has 4K displays.

When You Find Out About an Exciting New Technology

This is your chance to be a game changer in the industry. Have you heard about new technology and thought, “It won’t be long before everyone is using those.” Why not get ahead of the game and be the first company to offer that kind of tech in your fleet. Innovation is the key to survival in the modern competitive business world.

Have Your Upgrades Installed the Right Way

If your fleet is in the San Diego area, you have the opportunity to get the best installation possible by contacting the pros at Soundiego. From audio and video installation to tinting, security, and smart feature, we can help bring your fleet into the modern era. Call 619-582-5577 today to learn more.
